NexTek to enter Nashville IT market
Memphis, TN – Memphis-based IT company, NexTek, will open an office in Nashville by March. The company’s growth is fueled by demand for cloud computing services.
For years, NexTek has offered a service that many predict will change the face of business IT as we know it: cloud computing. Also called “centralized computing,” “hosted computing,” “virtual desktop infrastructure,” or sometimes “utility computing,” the technology has existed for years, but NexTek is one of the few companies that recognized its potential early on and invested in it. “Others are talking about cloud computing as ‘the future of IT,’ but for us, the future is here, and it has been for a while,” says Wayne Randall, Jr., owner of NexTek.
Cloud computing replaces traditional IT infrastructures (company servers, in-house IT departments, etc.) with off-site virtual servers that are maintained, backed up, and upgraded by a hosting company. Put simply, it’s computing delivered on demand, much the way phone, cable, water, power and other utilities are provided. Because the costs of professionally maintaining a centralized data center are shared by many client companies, the usage-based cost to each is far lower than the expense of traditional IT solutions. This enables small to medium sized businesses to get an enterprise-level computing experience at a predictable and affordable monthly cost. Large businesses also enjoy significant cost savings, plus the many operational benefits that a centralized data solution can provide.
It is these cost-saving benefits that have finally pushed cloud computing into the limelight, and propelled NexTek’s rapid growth. In 2009, during the worst economic recession the country has faced in decades, NexTek doubled in size, and expects to double again in 2010. By reinvesting in its hardware and software infrastructure, the company has emerged as the largest company in Memphis to offer hosted computing services. While other companies are just now exploring cloud computing service offerings, NexTek already has a state-of-the-art data center, several years of experience with this technology, and an established customer base.
In March, NexTek will open a second office to serve the Nashville area, but this isn’t the company’s first foray outside the Memphis market. NexTek has recently acquired clients in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Washington, DC. “The beauty of cloud computing,” says Randall, “is that it doesn’t matter where you are located. What matters are the security, reliability and expertise of your hosting company.”
